CAMBRIDGE

CONTEMPORARY
Summer 2023 - Fall 2024

The Cambridge Contemporary was a beautiful departure from our typical Maine projects, with large sprawling yards and historic architecture. This home, positioned quaintly on a dead-end, quiet street in Cambridge, was gut renovated by our clients a few years prior and was the perfect restrained background for us to add warmth, detail, and depth.

Our client is a talented general contractor and real estate developer in the area. What started as a Design Guide inquiry became a beautiful collaboration between two creative women in the construction industry -- each of us brought our talents and perspectives to bring a fresh life to this contemporary family home.

The concept for this project centered around two things -- natural light and texture. The windows installed by the Harder Group brought the most magnificent light, so we dressed them with thoughtful drapery throughout the home. To keep the contemporary edge, we did not use a single curtain rod, but rather a combination of relaxed roman shades and concealed track curtains. There are moments of deep, dark color in this home, most notably a media room drenched in chalky navy grasscloth. We played up the moodiness by reupholstering existing grey sofas in a a tonal navy linen and bringing in ashy black woods and metals.

The home drips in texture, from plaster walls and a marble sink in the powder room to an Mongolian sheepskin bench with a cement table. The dining room features a 10' black live-edge table and chunky wood chairs with velvet seats, a combination of textures and formalities that will always have my heart.
